Fans of the West Coast crew, Top Dog Entertainment, have many artists to choose from to support. The names of Kendrick Lamar, AB-Soul and School Boy Q are often ones you hear picked as the favorites from that imprint. My personal favorite from their crew is Jay Rock, and I have a little story to tell you about how I discovered him.
Back in 2006, I was monkeying around on Limewire, searching for new music, for whatever reason while I was searching, Jay Rock’s song “Lift Me Up” came up in the search, and I downloaded it, I think I was looking for a Game song, and I got this instead, trust me, I was not disappointed. Finding out about dope musicians on accident is ALWAYS a victory, always. Ever since, I been riding with Jay Rock. He is the soft spoken rock of the TDE movement in my opinion.
A true West Coast artist at heart, Jay Rock reps the mic right and has consistently dropped dope music since I found out about him. Below you can catch the video for “Lift Me Up,” as well as the new video for his collaboration track with Future, James Black and Kendrick Lamar, “King’s Dead.”
