When you speak of the legendary Southern label, Hypnotized Minds, you certainly think of Three 6 Mafia first as the catalyst for their success. For solo artists though, the label had a pretty stout roster, featuring the likes of Kingpin Skinny Pimp, Chrome, Frayser Boy, Lil Wyte and all the members of Three 6 Mafia doing their solo projects. I feel like Frayser Boy and Chrome, are the two most slept on artists from their label, and wouldn’t you know it Frayser Boy got #Taken on one of his tracks.
On Frayser Boy’s Me Being Me album, the lead single was, “I Got That Drank.” At the time, the Dirty South was just starting to fully take over the rap game, and he called on Texas representatives Mike Jones and Paul Wall to assist him on this record. Frayser Boy and Mike Jones certainly did their thing, Mike Jones being the lesser of 2 on overall impact, but Mr. Paul Wall was just made for this record.
The cryptic and dark production, enabled Paul to come with a hot 16 that neither Frayser or Mr. Jones could combat. Just off bravado alone, Paul Wall was the victor of the 3, and with a veteran of the syrup culture, straight out of Houston, it was pretty much curtains when he started his verse. I often wonder what happened to Frayser Boy, he has been dormant for quite some time. I’ll never wonder who shined the brightest on this ode to Purple Punch, though, and that my friends, was Paul Wall. Check out the song below, do you feel Paul Wall reigned supreme on this syrup song? Let me know in the comments. #YaDig
